SUMMARY:COP25 - "Doubling the Climate Benefits of the Kigali amendment by improving energy efficiency in the cooling sector"
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday 10 December 2019 from 13.15 to 14.45\, Andrea Voigt\, EPEE’s Director General\, will speak at the below event organised by the CCAC\, France and the IGSD. Read more about the event below! \nDoubling the Climate Benefits of the Kigali amendment by improving energy efficiency in the cooling sector\nMadrid\, COP25\, Room 2 \nTuesday 10 December 2019\, 13.15-14.45. \n\nORGANIZERS\n\n\n\n\n\nClimate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrance\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInstitute for Governance and Sustainable Development (IGSD)\n\n\n\n\nCooling is central to health and the environment. Efficient\, clean cooling for all underpins many Sustainable Development Goals and represents an opportunity to avoid substantial climate and air pollutant emissions. \nThe phase-down of HFC refrigerants under the Kigali amendment has the potential to avoid up to 0.1˚C of warming by 2050 and up to 0.4℃ by 2100. The economic\, environmental\, and health benefits of catalyzing simultaneous energy efficiency improvements\, in concert with the HFC phase-down\, supports reduced energy consumption and avoided emissions of CO2 and black carbon\, which can potentially double the climate benefit of the phase down alone. \nEnhancement of energy efficiency in the cooling sector is a strategic\, near-term opportunity to realize significant climate and clean air benefits. \nIn this event\, our distinguished panel will showcase the concrete actions of countries and other actors to catalyze ambitious measures to improve energy efficiency in the cooling sector while transitioning out of HCFC and HFC refrigerants. \nPROGRAM\nOpening Remarks and Welcome\n\nElisabeth Borne\, Minister\, Ministry of Ecological and Solidary Transition\, France\nChina (TBC)\n\n\nKeynote\n\nDurwood Zaelke\, President\, Institute for Governance & Sustainable Development\n\n\nPanel\n\nShinjirō Koizumi\, Minister of Environment\, Japan\nDr Mohammad Mahmoud\, Minister\, Ministry of Environment\, Nigeria (TBC)\nMinister Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi\, Minister of Climate Change and Environment for the United Arab\, United Arab Emirates (TBC)\nDr. Harsh Vardhan\, Union Minister of Environment\, Forest and Climate Change\, India (TBC)\nBertrand Piccard\, Founder and Chairman\, Solar Impulse Foundation\nSabin Basnyat\, Energy Efficiency Senior Specialist\, Green Climate Fund\nAndrea Voigt\, Director General\, European Partnership for Energy and the Environment (EPEE)\n\n\nClosing Remarks\n\nInger Andersen\, Executive Director\, UN Environment Programme\n\n

SUMMARY:COP25 - "MPGCA Roundtable: SDG 7"
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday 10 December 2019 from 16.30 to 18.00\, Andrea Voigt\, EPEE’s Director General\, will speak at the below event organised by IRENA\, SE4All and UNFCCC. Read more about the event below! \nMPGCA Roundtable: SDG7\nHall 4\, Room “San Pedro de Atacama” \nTuesday 10 December 2019\,16.30-18.00 \nORGANIZERS \nIRENA\, SEforAll\, and UNFCCC \nAnd supported by IEA and REN21 \nOVERVIEW \nSustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7) calls for ensuring access to affordable\, reliable\, sustainable and modern energy for all by 2030 through the achievement of three targets\, namely ensuring universal access to affordable\, reliable and modern energy services; increasing substantially the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix; and doubling the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency. Touching nearly all aspects of society\, access to energy is a prerequisite for the achievement of other SDGs. Achieving SDG7 in the context of the Paris Agreement on climate change means a rethink on how we produce\, distribute and consume energy. According to Tracking SDG7: The Energy Progress Report1\, the world is making progress towards achieving SDG7\, but is falling short of meeting the goal to ensure access to affordable\, reliable\, sustainable and modern energy for all by 2030. A sense of urgency is lacking. \nThis event will take stock of progress and identify solutions specifically focusing on electricity access that can help accelerate action towards achieving SDG7 for a prosperous\, climate-safe future for all. \nSPEAKERS \nSpeakers will include high-level experts and decision-makers from public and private sectors focused on action and solutions to help achieve SDG7. \n  \n
